We need In School Mentors

Many people may be unaware of our In School Mentoring Program. This program matches an adult volunteer from the community with a child in one of our partner schools in Colchester. The student and volunteer mentor meet once a week, for an hour at the child’s school.

This differs from our more well known Core Program (Big Sister, Big Brother, Big Couple) because there is no evening, weekend, or summertime commitment. We simply ask for a 10 month commitment from our volunteers. We understand that this program takes place during many peoples traditional work hours, there for we are looking for individuals who may have a flexible work schedule, work shift work, or who may be retired. We are also open to college and university students who are able to work around their class schedule.

We work with schools throughout Colchester and match volunteers with a student at a school that is most convenient for them. We also can work with varying schedules. For example, if you can meet on Mondays one week, but Thursdays the next….that’s OK!

We also like to emphasis that this is a non-academic program. Although this program takes place at the child’s school and during their class time hours, the time spent with their mentor is intended to be stress free, and a break from some of the typical school stressors. Some examples of activities that a mentor and mentee may do together are play cards or board games, color or make crafts, play outside on the playground, or simply just talk.

This is really such a small commitment that can help a child in a big way. If you think this is something you’d like to be a part of, please call us today.
