2019 has arrived and we’ve relocated to our new home in North River. We spent 21 years on Logan St and we outgrew our cozy yellow house. We are so excited for what our new location has to offer the community. Not only will we continue serving up cones in the Spring, but we are also planning some exciting additions to the green space behind our building.
Executive Director, Nick Sharpe says the new name for the Dairy Bar will be unveiled very soon and will be nostalgic for a lot of local folks.
“We’re aware that this Dairy Bar has been a family destination for years, and we’re going to build from there to make sure that continues,” said Sharpe. “But what we’re most excited about is the new program we’ll be developing around this business, where youth will be able to build essential skills while learning about the ins-and-outs of operating a non profit organization, introducing them to more career options as they enter adulthood.”
Throughout the summer, Dairy Bar Staff will shadow BBBS Employees to learn about financial management, program coordination, fundraising, marketing, child and youth services, PR, non profit leadership, and more.
“We’re all about mentorship, relationships, and experiences at BBBS, and we know the Dairy Bar and new ‘Learn to Lead’ program are going to be a great fit for our Organization and fill some gaps in ensuring young people are introduced to the opportunities,” added Sharpe.
The Dairy Bar will be operated by Big Brothers Big Sisters as a Social Enterprise. For anyone unfamiliar, a social enterprise sells goods and services and reinvests the money they make back into the local community. This allows and Organization to tackle social problems, improve people’s life chances, support communities and help the environment.
Along with the ‘Learn to Lead’ mentorship being developed for the Dairy Bar, every dollar from every ice cream product you buy will go directly back into our essential programs for children and youth in our community and will enable Big Brothers Big Sisters to serve more children.
With the move a few kilometres out of the Downtown Truro core, we are sure everyone is wondering if there will be other locations where people will be able to update their Big Bucks prepay. Stay tuned on our Facebook page as we are getting ready to announce a new prepay location, but for now, we encourage you to come out and check out our new home! If transportation is an issue, you can always call us at 902-895-4562 to update your prepaid number.
We are looking forward to welcoming everyone into our new space. We see a bright future for all of Colchester at our home in North River. This new location provides us with room for growth and more opportunities to serve the children and youth of this community, and it wouldn’t be possible without all our supporters. That’s a BIG deal! Thank you!
