Lawn Bowling 2023

Here at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colchester, we provide no-cost mentoring programs that strive to reach young people who face adversity and are in need of an additional supportive relationship. Mentors are professionally trained and supported to ignite the unique power and potential of each mentee. Big Brothers Big Sisters provides every match with access to a professional mentoring coordinator who provides support to the mentee, mentor and their family.

In addition to offering mentoring programs, we have Fundy Scoops and the newly opened Fundy Scoops Too that provides employment opportunities for local youth, including those involved in our mentorship programs. This social enterprise helps develop transferable skills these young people can take with them to other opportunities in the community and into their future careers. New last fall was our Job Readiness Program. This exciting ten-part training program prepares youth for the expectations of the work force. We had 15 youth participate in 2022, we are hoping to be able to expand this program for the fall of 2023.

On September 23rd, 2023 we are having a Bowl for Kids’ Sake – Lawn Bowl Fundraiser hosted by Cobequid Lawn Bowling Club. The funds raised will allow us to continue to provide the children and youth of Colchester with the impactful, volunteer-based mentoring programs that will ensure they reach their full potential. Currently, we have 146 matches in our program and 73 children and youth waiting for a match.

WHY PARTICIPATE?

This fundraising event is a wonderful opportunity for your company to participate in a fun team building activity for a good cause. It’s a great morale builder as employees place high value on their company being a good citizen. Connectedness to community in a time of social separation is vital to our well-being and productiveness, and employees feel this when they are part of a positive initiative in the workplace. Not to mention all proceeds from the event go directly back into our programs and services for local young people!
